Music Education Master's Degree

If you're a choral, instrumental or general music teacher, Northern's Master of Music Education's online format is designed to fit into your busy life. It offers a flexible way to complete your advanced degree in two years while you retain your current job. The online program is practice-oriented and covers the essentials of research in music education, music theory, performance practices, conducting, pedagogy and music education management.

 

Music Education Bachelor's Degree

As an NSU music education major, you can learn to:

 

  • Teach music to K-12 students
  • Perform and create music, and
  • Develop students’ understanding and appreciation of the art of music

The instrumental emphasis is for you if you’d like to teach K-12 instrumental music and supervise school music programs. You’ll be encouraged to take vocal courses to strengthen your musicianship.

Art Education B.S.Ed. Degree

In the NSU art education program, you’ll learn advanced visual design skills and use traditional studio media and tools, within the enriching context of a liberal arts curriculum. Graduates are prepared to enter the art field as professional K-12 teachers or to attend graduate school.

 

In NSU’s studio and lab classrooms, you’ll receive broad exposure to art history, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography, painting, drawing, design and mixed media.
