ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Choirs will tour eastern South Dakota Nov. 28-29 and hold their “Holiday Home Concert” on Nov. 30 at First Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen.
The NSU Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Early Musick Ensemble and Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform on tour and the Aberdeen Community Chorus will join the ensembles on their “Holiday Home Concert.”
The NSU Choirs will visit Groton High School in Groton, and Sioux Valley High School in Volga, on Nov. 28. They will then visit Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls, and Brookings High School in Brookings, on Nov. 29.
Concluding their tour, the NSU Choirs will perform their “Holiday Home Concert” at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 30 at First Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen.
The music for the Tour and Home Concerts will be selected from the following pieces:
Concert Choir will perform “Kyrie and Gloria from Misa Criolla” by Ariel Ramirez; “Fantasia on Christmas Carols” by Ralph Vaughan Williams; “Carol of the Bells” by M. Leontovich arr. by Peter Wilhousky; “Rondes” by Folke Rabe; “O Holy Night” arr. by Jeffrey Haskell; “Ride on King Jesus” by Dominic Gregorio; “My Soul’s Been Anchored in the Lord” arr. by Moses Hogan; “Wade in the Water” arr. by Ysaye M. Barnwell; and “Seigneur, je vous en prie from Quatre petites prières de Saint Fran?ois d’Assise” by Francis Poulenc.
Chamber Singers will perform “Only in Sleep” by Eriks E?envalds; “Movements III and IV from Songs of Ariel” by Frank Martin; “There Will be Rest” by Frank Ticheli; “The Wexford Carol” arr. by Matthew Culloton; and “In dulci jubilo” arr. by R.L. Pearsall.
The Early Musick Ensemble will perform “Kyrie from Missa La sol fa re mi,” “El Grillo,” and “Scaramella” by Josquin des Prez; “Ave verum corpus” by William Byrd; “Darà la notte il sol from the 6th Book of Madrigals” by Claudio Monteverdi; and “Lamentations of Jeremiah, Part II” by Thomas Tallis.
The Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform “Smack Dab in the Middle” arr. by Damon Meader; “Christmastime is Here” arr. by Steve Zegree; “For Good” arr. by Michael Wheaton; and “Sing We Now of Christmas” arr. by Robert Sterling.
The Aberdeen Community Chorus will perform “Five Carols” by Alfred Burt and “Kyrie from The Coronation Mass” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The NSU Concert Choir, Chamber Singers and Early Musick Ensemble are directed by Dr. Timothy Woods. Vocal Jazz Ensemble is led by Dr. Wendy van Gent. The Aberdeen Community Chorus is directed by Richard Wilson.
Admission is a freewill donation to NSU music scholarships at the door. NSU students are admitted for free.
First Presbyterian Church is located at 318 S. Kline St.
