ABERDEEN, S.D. — The 41st annual Northern South Dakota Science and Mathematics Fair, sponsored by Northern State University, 3M of Aberdeen and the Aberdeen Area Community Foundation, is set for March 21, 2024.
Forty judges from Aberdeen and surrounding areas will evaluate projects and interview participating students in the morning. The fair will be open for public viewing from 1-7 p.m. in Wachs Arena within Barnett. The free awards ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center, Room 181.
Twelve area schools will be represented, with about 180 students in grades 6-12 participating from Brown, Campbell, Day, Edmunds, Faulk, Hyde, Marshall, McPherson, Roberts, Spink and Walworth counties.
The top two senior high individuals and the top senior high team of two students will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the International Science and Engineering Fair on May 11-17 in Los Angeles. At the international fair, students can compete for cash prizes, tuition and other awards.
Junior and senior high science bowls, held alongside the fair, will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center. Public attendance is encouraged.
The fair is overseen by Dr. Jodie Ramsay, professor of biology, and Jessica Furney, department secretary. Megan Howard, NSU master teacher at the E-Learning Center, will chair the senior science bowl. The NSU Honors Program will manage the junior science bowl.
